Hi,

I have been working on the Verbal Review (Purple Book, 2nd edition ) and want your feedback and insight on this.

I am attatching the document named Analysis. I attempted six sections. I took problems in jumbled manner e.g. 4 q SC then 4 Q CR than again 4 Q RC. I was targetting 70 seconds per Q for SC, 2 min per CR and 2 min per RC ( including Reading of passage ). Am also maintaining error log for each section too.

If you can help me in identifying what should i do now.... Should i still work on strategies ? should i focus on more practice ? should i shift to tests ? I am targetting atleast 40 in Verbal. Pls give your analysis and suggestions... i took mock of MGMAT and scored 30 in verbal last time ( 19/11/2010 ) from then i hv not taken any test because i fear that if i score less i might loose motivation

Analysis File :
Column B - no of Q , Column C - Correct Q , Column D - Accuracy , Column E - Total Time in Min , Column F - Ave time per Q in min and Column G - No of seconds per Question.

I am yet to take OG 12 , i will be starting it once i get feedback on verbal review , so i get proper output from OG 12.

LOVE your spreadsheet! Very cool, and very helpful to find your weaknesses.

It seems to me that your biggest gains can be made in RC. Test different approaches to this type of question. The way I like to handle them is to read the first question (skip the answers!). Then I take my time reading the text. Since you will get more than one question about one text, you can basically pro-rate the time you spend reading the text over the 3-5 questions that follow it. So don't worry about wasting a little time doing some good reading and understanding.

While reading, I take a few notes. Nothing detailed, just some important pieces of information. Then read the first question again and formulate an answer based on your reading and your notes. You know the answer, so now all you have to do is find that correct answer among the categories provided.

Move on to the next question, and again formulate your own answer to the question. Look for the correct answer and as soon as you've found it, move on the the third question. And so on...
