gmat and passport name dont match !

by devika23 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 3:08 am
Hi ,
i would really really appreciate a repsonse to my following question.
My passport has the following name :
given name:- Lxxx Dyyy
surname:Mzzz
fathers name: Rxxx Mzzz

now for GMAT my regisered name is:
first: Dyyy
Middle (blank)
last:Mzzz

however my educational certificates have Dyyy Rxxx Mzzz.. since fathers name is arbitrality added as middle name .

will this create a problem when applying for universities as it is not consistent with passport?

should i have my passport name changed by dropping the Lxxxx as thats the only place it appears or will an affidavit do??

please help. I would be highly indebted if you could give me a solution.
Thanks so much.

The passport name should be matched with Xth standard certificate name otherwise it would be problem when checked strictly.I advise you other the change the name in all your educational certificates or else change the name in the passport. To change the name in the passport, there is a procedure given in the back side of application form. You are likely to charged as penalty of giving wrong information when you had applied for a passport,if you pay penalty, name will be changed according to your academic certificates.

thanks for the reply. i did call up the prometric test centre but they said they do not do name changes once you have given the exam.

also what i have understood is that the certificates dont have to exactly match upto the passport but can have some variation though will have to be notorised.

i think my only option drop the Lxxx from my passport so that it is consistent with my gmat name . does that seem like a full solution ???

I would say, use caution before you change your name in the passport. Unless that is the only place where your name is different. US univs. don't care about Xth certificate, nor for that matter any educational certificate. It is common to have differences in the name. Just attach official documentation, either attested or notarized to substantiate your claim.

Just double-check with any of the universities that you wish to apply, before going through the pains of changing the passport.
