73.

Analysts blamed May's sluggish retail sales on unexctiting merchandise as well as the weather, colder ad wetter than was usual in some regions, which sales of barbecue grills and lawn furniture.

a. same
b. which was colder and wetter than was usual in some regions, slowing
c. since it was colder and wetter than usually in some regions, which slowed
d. being colder and wetter than usually in some regions, slowing
e. having been colder and wetter than was usual in some regions and slowed

the correct answer is B because the A unnecessarily puts in WAS. I can see how USUALLY doesn't fit but what about the differences between slowed and slowing? How do I pick them? How is is A unclearly identifying the pronouns?
