Weekend (part-time) MBA at Chicago-Booth or Kellogg - Chance

Hello,

I am working as a IT Project/Program Manager at HP. I took my GMAT yesterday and got a score of 580.

My initial target was SMU COX since I live in Dallas. I think 580 is a decent enough score to apply for Part-time MBA at SMU COX.

My question is:
Is there any chance of getting into the "weekend MBA" program at Chicago-Booth or Kellogg with a score of 580 or is it going to be a waste of time to even apply for it?

Since it is a weekend program, I am trying find out if there is a chance of getting in with a lower score of 580. I have a M.S in computer science with 17 years of experience in IT with the last 7 years as a Project and Program Manager.

Hi Singar,

This is an interesting question and there isn't a clear answer. The weekend MBA (executive MBA) programs at Booth and Kellogg are not "watered-down" or "easy" versions of a normal MBA. The programs still look to admit high caliber individuals. However, the criteria by which these individuals are judged may be a bit different and could work in your favor. Successful applicants for the weekend programs need a strong track record of success. It is the professional accomplishments that matter most. The students in the programs work full time and have positions that they aren't willing to leave for a more "traditional" program. Usually the students have the MBA paid for by their current employed (who will often fly them to Chicago every other weekend, etc.).

SO...with that said, your GMAT is less important than it would be otherwise. However, you still need to show that you can handle a rigorous course load and that you are analytically inclined. If you can demonstrate this through your LORs and work experience, you may have a shot. It will still be challenging but, with a compelling application, I think it could be possible.
