Profile Evaluation request

by mithilesh.vnit85 » Wed Dec 08, 2010 12:35 am
Hi,

I am an Indian Applicant. I have completed by engineering from NIT, Nagpur in metallurgical and materials engineering. After that I worked in Tatamotors (Leading Indian Automobile company) for 4 years. I worked in projects Indica Vista, Indigo Manza and Tata Nano. After working for 4 years, I found I need to shift from manufacturing as I was saturated with the work culture. So I left the job and started my own music company. I have launched one music album in regional language and working for its promotions. I am doing street plays in rural areas to promote the album as well as passing message for girl child education. Parallely, I am preparing for Financial courses as I am interested in shifting to Financial sector. My CPI is 8.05 on the scale of 10. Currently, I am not working full time in an organization but pursuing activities for my music company.
I would like to join a consulting firm as an associate Post MBA and to start my own company after 8 to 10 years.
I am having GMAT score of 670 (50,31) and looking to apply for following B schools. Can you please evaluate my chances of getting in.

List of schools:
Booth, Dukes, Emory, schulich, Lancaster, Ross

Further, I am looking forward to retake GMAT test. I want to know how much difference will it make If I improve from 670 to 700+.

Regards,

Hi,

Thanks for your post. Your background is certainly unique and interesting. While I think it's great that you left a job you didn't enjoy to pursue something you're passionate about, you will want to be sure to emphasize the entreprenuerial nature of your role. You have obviously needed and developed quite a few skills to start your own music company, so be sure these are in your resume.

Overall I do think you can indeed be competitive for admission at the schools on your list. While your GMAT score is below average for those schools, your unique professional/personal experience will help you stand out in the pool and thus perhaps have better odds of success.

Regards,

Stacey

Thanks Stacey for your response.

I am in dilema to appear for GMAT once again or not. I am targeting GMAT by 28th December and will be applying for Schools in Round 2. I am parallely preparing for essays too.

I need your say on attempting GMAT again, If I managed to get 700+, will it be helpful?

Regards,
Mithilesh

Hi,

If you truly think you can score 700+ on the GMAT then it might be worth another try at the end of December. Be sure that you can balance studying for the GMAT along with working on your applications. Both require a lot of effort and you wouldn't want one to suffer for the sake of the other.

Best,

Stacey
