First attempt!

by eraznovan » Sat Dec 04, 2010 8:41 pm
First off, I'm not one of those people looking for the 790. I work full-time for a university, have an amazing job, have a relatively diverse background (financial institution, publications manager, graphics designer, marketing coordinator, etc...) and miss the challenges that school gives me. You know - those nights when you wonder why exactly you're doing this to yourself as it's 3am and you're reading a chapter on macroeconomics, when you could be out at a bar or watching a movie? LOVE IT. That said, I also love print production so I guess I'm an oddball.

Anyways, I want to get into my school's MBA program and I know people who got 750s and 520s that are in this program so, needless to say, I wasn't aiming for the stars. I've been doing solid(ish) studying for the past month and a half, balancing work and study and (now ex-) boyfriend. First practice test - 620, second 520, third 540, fourth 600. I guess the range was ok for where I wanted to be.

I wrote it today and ended up with a 630. Not a native speaker (speak three languages on a daily basis - there comes a point where everything sounds right LOL) Now, I know it's nothing to write home about, but I'm happy with it. :) I was told by a person on the admissions committee that there are mostly engineers in the MBA program so when a creative comes their way, they examine the application more carefully as we're not as much of a cookie-cutter demographic. I haven't decided if that's a good thing or bad thing yet but I'm giving it a shot. I'll have to kick but on my essay and letter of intent.

I wanted to thank everyone on this site for their awesome and invaluable contributions (even the cheerleaders - God bless you!). The people who thought they were asking stupid questions, THANKS!!!! Saved me a post. The Daily blasts? Sheer genius. Loved them! Keeps your brain going every day around 3pm (when it's mostly fried post-meetings). You've got a solid community here. If I wanted to chase a higher score, I will most definitely use this site!!
