Kroll Background Check -- Employment Verification

Can background check companies like Kroll verify EVERYWHERE you have ever worked? Or only those places you have reported on your resume? I got a part-time job in college but quickly decided that it wasn't for me and quite after a month. I did not report this on my application. Is there a way for them to find out about this?

Hi JT327, the AdCom is not going to be worried about a part-time job you had in college for a month--even if it does end up showing up on a background check. They use background check companies to make sure you don't leave out meaningful full-time work experiences--like working somewhere for four months, getting fired, and not wanting to mention it in your application. This is obviously not the case for you.

I have a similar question. I worked somewhere for 6 months and was let go for "fit" after speaking with my manager about how I wasn't sure the job was right for me long-term (under HR's advice). Do I have to speak about this in my application? Since I was not "fired" will this show up on my background check?

My advice: Just be honest in your application. Mention the work experience in your CV. Should they ask about why you only worked there for 6 months in your interview then just tell your story. I wouldn't see why that's a problem?

The last thing you want is to be accepted somewhere and then have to worry about some background checks which may uncover something leading to revoking your acceptance.
