can i make it (profile evaluation)

by sunilbhojwani » Tue Nov 23, 2010 6:30 am
Had first F2F meeting with GMAT and yes it knocked me with a score of 640 .
I am eyeing Columbia or ISB (general management) so need your advice on same.

GMAT : 640
Degree: Bachelors in computer science.
Academics : Over 80% throughout in school and college (topper in school and university)
Industry : IT services (most common)
Experience : 5 years (3+ years of international experience)
Extra Curricular : various awards in debates, sports and artistic activities throughout career at various level
Additional features : involved with education industry for past 7-8 years (like tutoring, mentoring and working with NGO to conduct educational programs)
Goal : To get alligned to the education industry. Reason to join MBA is to learn methods of managing, promoting and running an (educational) organization.

Any help and recommendation from you all is appreciated.
sunil.

Dear Sunil,

For Columbia and ISB, I think it will be very difficult for you to gain admission with your current profile. Your education and experience are over-represented in the applicant pool of these schools and your 640 is low relative to other applicants with a similar profile. I would encourage you to retake the exam as you might have had nerves affecting your performance the first time. If you can get your score closer to a 680 (over 700 would be best), then you will be in a much more competitive position. I also encourage you to identify some other programs where you will be competitive and where the GMAT average is closer to 640.

Good luck,
Lisa
