GMAT Score:650
I intend to apply to NYU part-time MBA program for Fall 2011. However, I noticed on their website that they are still accepting applications for Spring 2011 admission. I confirmed this today with an admissions representative at Stern. I realize that there are probably not too many seats available and the competition to get into those seats will be high (per SB representative in previous post), but is it worth applying anyway? Profile below:

GMAT: 650 (Q44, V35)

GPA: 2.8 from top ten undergraduate business school

Work experience: 5+ years with Global Fortune 500 company (Top 30) in New York developing and managing distribution sales to retail and commercial accoutns.

I want to get my GMAT up to the 680 range and realize my GPA is on the low side for Stern PT, but I can't take the GMAT again for another month as I took it for the first time today. I have not started the application at all. Should I submit an application anyway this late in the game? My thoughts are that an improved GMAT score and a re-application would be looked upon more favorably by the admissions staff then a single application in the fall. Could an admissions consultant please let me know his or her thoughts?

In general, I agree with your analysis and I don't think it could hurt to apply for the spring. However, with a low GPA and a relatively low GMAT, it will be challenging to get a spot (this is true for spring and also for next fall unless your score improves significantly). Fortunately, for the part-time program, it is your LORs and your resume that will be most important. Assuming that your recommenders have sufficient time to write good letters and that you have sufficient time to write compelling essays, I don't think you have much to lose by applying! The key components of your application package won't change very much in the next six months and you will get an idea of where you stand (if you are waitlisted or rejected, use it as an opportunity to speak with Adcom members to learn how to best position yourself next time!).

Hope this helps! Good luck!
