Unconventional Introduction to Goal Essay??

by Cinji18 » Sat Oct 23, 2010 1:15 pm
I want to describe a sense of what I imagine my professional life will be afterwards. I'm a screenwriter, and had planned to write in screenplay format for the first paragraph, and write the rest in the classic, tradition essay format. I thought that type of intro will be creative and unique, making me stand out. I Is this considered appropriate, or is this too risky?

Thanks.

I think that's an awesome idea if done correctly. I wrote several essays about my "hobby" of screenwriting and entering screenwriting contests, but wish I had thought of that idea before I had finished all of mine!

One warning, however. I imagine that you are moving from screenwriting to business, and I would want to be clear that you are not appearing to "hang on" to some previous life, if that is the case. Obviously, I don't know how your whole story. If you are still clear with your goals afterwards, I think it's a great idea. I'm sure it'll make you stand out.

I think what you're proposing sounds like a great hook, and a creative way to introduce your work. Just be sure, as the previous poster said, to be clear about your goals and why you want to go to business school. The format shouldn't distract from the main message of your essay. With a limited word count, you want to spend those words wisely :)

Good luck!
