Help me select schools

Hi Stacy,
- GPA, major, school
I am from India. Have scored 70% average of all semesters in Bachelor Of Engineering in Telecommunicaiton major. Studied in a top engg school PESIT from Visweswaraiah Technological University.

- GMAT with breakdown
690. Q50(95%).V34(70%)

- resume highlights, including company name, job titles and promotions
Took softskills training, Worked in Robert Bosch India (embedded systems) 1 yr 6 months, Visteon (embedded systems), 1yr.10months, working currently in Schneider Electric for last 8 months. Total as on Jan'08, 4yrs 1 month experience.
- extracurricular involvements
*not much. use to involve in sports before highschool.
*organised a small event in college where i managed everything - finance, people, all small details required to make an event success
*was part of a team that started and brought out tech magazine for our department.
- awards, patents, publications, etc...
None
- interesting personal facts - countries lived in, challenges faced, unusual interests
* countries - India, all my life except one month in US.

I had a break of an year before Engg because I did not get a school of my choice.


I am interested in working in IT domain. I am slightly interested in finance but no particular background. I want suggestions on school where the cost of living is slightly moderate and where there are good chances of getting aid and of course good placements.

It would be a miracle if I can get into a good school in 2nd round admission so that I can start school by this year..otherwise will have to start next year.

Any suggestions will be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi,

Your profile looks fine. If, however, you wish to meet the R2 deadlines of schools, the least you're going to have to do is to come up with compelling stories for the usual questions: challenges, leadership, failure, and so on. That is to say nothing of crafting it into a pithy, well-written essay. If I were you I'd be working day and night right now.

I would think about schools in Europe and Canada, and perhaps ISB if you are interested in staying in India. European/Canadian schools are definitely less expensive than US schools, and some are slightly less competitive. An added bonus is that the round system can be a little different than in the US, and applying later in the year isn't necessarily the same liability. You'll have to check the requirements for the schools you are interested in to see, but at least a few have later deadlines. A school like Oxford may be a good choice for you.
