essay question

In my application for master of management program of HEC Paris & ESCP-EAP (Paris), I have this essay question but I cannot quite figure out what this question is asking.
The question goes like this:
"Have you written any papers, dissertations, etc. Individually or as a member of a group? Please comment. "

Since I don't have a tangible experience of writing any dissertation, I am planning to write about an experience I had when I wrote a group paper regarding a research project given at class...

But I am not sure what kind of aspect I should focus on when answering this question and what kind of aspect of mine should l highlight?

Is this an essay question or a data gathering question?

I'm not familiar with this application form, but if it's a short data gathering question on an application, I would imagine that the point is to see if you have done significant academic work in the area of a dissertation or published paper. Similar to a question that would ask about awards or patents. It sounds like you have not done something like that, therefore I would say that you haven't or leave it blank. If it's an essay question you would want to focus on the academic experience and/or team experience if it was with a team.
