Interesting GMATFix Problem-50

N is a set of 4 consequtive even integers whose sum is positive, O is the set of 4 consequtive odd integers. Is the median of N greater than the average of O ?
1)The product of all elements of O is negative
2)The product of the average of N and the median of O is negative.

the lowest set of 4 consec even ints whose sum is +ve can be

-2 0 2 4

question median of N > avg of O ?

statement 1)

for product of all the odd ints to be -ve, we need odd number of -ve's in the sequence...

so only 2 possibilities are there..

-1 1 3 5 and -5 -3 -1 1

but here the median of -1 1 3 5 is 2
and the median of N, -2 0 2 4, is 1

so median of N < median of O

and ofcourse if N is 4 6 8 10 then median of N > median of O

statement 2)

median of N * median of O < 0

that means one is +ve and and one is -ve

since median of N cannot be -ve, ( lowest is 1) so median of O will have to be -ve

the highest possible of sequence O, which has a -ve median is -5 -3 -1 1 where the median is -2
which is lower than the median of the lowest sequence of N ( 1 )...

hence median of N > median of O

Pick B...
