Indian GPA Vs US GPA

by joefreddy » Fri Dec 28, 2007 10:08 pm
Hi,
I am from India. We follow percentage system and not normal curve system and hence when we calculate GPA as per US standards, most of the Indian students score quite less compared to other students. A score of 65 - 70 % is considered good in India. But the GPA works out to less than 3.0. How will US B-School consider this ??? Please advice. Thank you.

Hi,

American business-schools have been in the business of admitting Indian applicants for a long time, and are certainly well-versed in the intricacies of what a certain GPA means in a certain context. Even in an American context, a 4.0 from Harvard College means much less, whereas a 4.0 from The University of Chicago means a WHOLE lot more since grade inflation at the latter is kept at a minimal. Adcom of business schools are aware of such issues, so there is no need to worry.
