I don't think its A as it is difficult to decide what "his leadership" refers to (DM or HT) And moreover HTs doesn't make much sense to me. I am not sure what exactly it is

E is wrong because the phrase - "covers his rise to the presidency", his is being referred to biographer, not to HT, this is a sublime difference a passive reader can over look.

B is the correct one.

If you are confused between B and E,

In E, the prepositional phrase in the acclaimed tome, Truman is too far removed from what it is supposed to modify (in-depth study of HT). It incorrectly modifies return to private life because of erroneous placement.

By the way, I do not think that his is an ambiguous pronoun in E because presented by Biographer DM is a non essential modifier in the sentence.
