GMAT Debrief

by driekus » Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:51 am
Well, I just finished the GMAT and got mixed results. I panicked a little bit and my result reflects that. I got 660 (44 Q, 37 V). Im not sure how I did on the AWA, but I'll find out soon enough.

AWA
Standard AWA type questions. I froze a little on the issue choice, but I managed 4 paragraphs so Im confident I did pretty well.

Quantitative
I froze big time here, I typically get 47-50 on my practice quantitatives. The questions are similar to the GMAT prep.

Verbal
I relaxed a lot more here and scored similar results to what I get on the MGMAT Verbal section. Some people have complained that the verbal has increased in difficulty, I disagree with that.

Overall, I'm applying to a business school with a 550 minimum and 600 average so Im not incredibly concerned here. Sure I could take the GMAT again and score higher, but I think ill focus on the other areas a bit more. I have a funky GPA, first year really bad and then near perfect afterwards, lucky they only look at last two years undergrad. The PhD may also help me a little.

I know people have said the GMAT is different to the GMAT prep but I disagree completely. Im happy, wish I got higher, but I can live with it.
