Singular\Plural confusion

Manhattan has mentioned that glasses and statistics are singular. Is that correct?

I always thought that correct would be 'My glasses have broken'
and that 'Statistics have shown...'

Please tell me which one is correct.

as far my knowledge glasses is plural but statistics is singular.
