Amy, please evaluate my profile

Indian Male, 25 yrs. Graduated from Purdue University as a B.S. in Electrical Engineer with 3.47 GPA in 2005

Trying for MBA for fall 08

Undergraduate years: 2001 - 2005

Founder of Purdue Indian Dance Club in Junior year.
Resident Assistant senior year of 50 guys - full tuition waived with room and boarding. It is a very competitive position in Purdue. - my best experience in undergrad.

After graduation career: - 3 years in Austin, TX, Dell by Aug 08

May 05 - May 06 - Development engineer in Dell
May 05 - May 07 - Lead engineer/Project manager
May 07 - Sep 07 - Working in technical sales.
Sep 07 - present - Account Manager Sales. I made the switch because I want to learn about the online business.



Other interests: Dancing( was a choreographer in college), MC/compere for events for non-profit org.

GMAT: 660 - second attempt. Cannot take again because the deadline are very close now.


Schools:
Stanford (no. 1 choice, because I want to excel in technology business)
Harvard


What do you think about my profile? What do you think is the strongest point and what is the weakest point in my profile for these schools? My biggest concern is the 660 on GMAT ?

Hi austindude,

I think you have a great attitude and very passionate goals, which will take you far. You've definitely achieved the intangible factors, and it sounds like you should be able to differentiate from your demographic pool effectively.

Your academics are a weak point. I would definitely take the GMAT again if you can. Stanford is one of the most selective MBA programs in the world, so I would definitely prepare a back up plan if it doesn't work out.

I dont have the time to take the GMAT now, as I took it 2 days ago, with the deadline as 7 Jan.

Can you please suggest anything else which can cover up the academic weakness ?

Hi Ashish,

The other good tip for academic weakness is to build an alternate transcript, but you certainly don't have time for that.

I would expand your list of schools if you are aiming to be in school in the fall. Applying to Stanford and Harvard is great, and hopefully it will work out, but realistically these are the top tier schools and you have no guarantees. This year is also shaping up to be quite competitive if 1st round is any indication.
