Profle Eval: Young applicant from a unique industry

Hello,

Thank you for taking a look.

Here is my current profile:

GPA/ School: 3.16, Business Admin (Major: Marketing Minor: Econ) From U of N. Colorado. B-school won the Bladridge Award in '04

GMAT: 600-650

Work Exp: 3 years with an action sports company, promoted twice, currently in a sales function

Other: Dual citizenship. Just started own company, expect to turn a very small profit by mid next year

Here is my worry:
My transcripts and GMAT show weak quant skills combined with a lower than average GPA and little work exp.

Could the small Econ background offset some of the quant issues?

I am hoping to make up ground in the essays by exploiting the dual citizenship and that I work in an extremely under represented industry. No one in my 200+ employee company has an MBA.

I am not shooting for top 10 schools, but would like something around the 25-50 ranking.

Thoughts?

Dear MLM,

You are right to be worried as all business schools scrutinize your quantitative aptitude. They must feel confident you can handle the coursework before they will admit you. If your quant score on the GMAT is low and your performance in your quant courses in college is not B+/A range, then you should consider taking some math classes to demonstrate your aptitude. While your dual citizenship, entrepreneurship, and industry experience are helpful to making you stand out, they will not mitigate a concern on your quantitative ability.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the reply. I agree that any b-school will want to have full faith that I am able to handle the course work. While my quant is not quite there it does show progression forward. For example:

Course XYZ level 1: C grade
Course XYZ level 2: A grade

This surely must count for something in the eyes of the admissions office, no?
