I am not able to understand how the subject is singular here?

Dont get confused because of the "Daughters of the American Revolution" ...the organisation collectively as a unit is singular

so we are left with ace

sujaysolanki, if u refer the Qs again and the options given, it is very true that only the options having "ADMITS" as verb can be chosen. But here some question regarding selection comes. So we are left with A, C and E. Now in C and E, look at the sentence construction -

admits as members women who

Here members and women both are noun and they are coming together as object. I think we can not chose them for this reason and also the meaning of the sentence is also getting distorted. So IMO A. sochatte, though u have already provided the OA, don't think that I am drawing my conclusion from that.

A is correct as the

subject "The Daughters of the American Revolution" is singular coz it a subject phrase & also the verb admits acts on the all the daughters i.e the totality, any noun which signifies something in totality is singular

C is incorrect coz of Clarity of meaning

the OS states that
admits as members only women who can prove lineal descent

whereas choice C states

admits as members women who can prove lineal descent

so the word only is ommited which changes the meaning of the sentence.

Daughters of the American Revolution is one organization so it's singular. Therefore the verb has to be plural, 'admits'. That leaves A, C, and E to choose from.

C is wrong because it changes the meaning of the sentence by omitting the word 'only'. The club admits ONLY women who can prove lineage. Without only, looks like any woman can join.

E is wrong because it also changes the meaning of the sentence, but in a different way. By putting only at the end of the sentence. It looks like the only restricts the proof, not the membership. In other words, it does not explain precisely that ONLY certain women get in. It is saying women who can prove only their lineage can get in, which doesn't make much sense.
