Need your opinion on the following programs

by abhisek » Wed Sep 08, 2010 5:36 am
Hi Amy/Stacy,

I gave my GMAT last week. Scored 720 and 4.5 in AWA. I have 7 yrs of experience in Software industry. I have joined a local admission counselling center and they have sent me the folowing list of colleges:

1.
MBA, LBS (UK) - https://www.london.edu/programmes/mba.html
2.
MBA, Insead (France/Singapore) - https://mba.insead.edu/home/
3.
MBA, School Of Management : Cranfield University (UK) - https://www.som.cranfield.ac.uk/som/p136 ... l-time-MBA
4.
MBA, IE Business School (Spain) - https://imba.ie.edu/
5.
MBA, Lisbon + MIT Sloan ( Portugal / USA ) - https://www.thelisbonmba.com/Lisbon-MBA- ... tabId=2120
6.
MIB, Fletcher Tufts University ( USA ) - https://fletcher.tufts.edu/business/default.shtml

Option 1 and 2 are my personal choice, I really want to get into one of them. Option 3, 4, 5 and 6 are chosent by them. 3 and 4 are good option. But 5 and 6 doesn't look great. First ogf all they have both been started in the last 5 yrs and again MIB is not same as MBA.

Looking forward to your opinion.

Regards,
Abhisek

Dear Abhisek,

It is difficult to comment as I don't know why the center is suggesting these programs as good matches for you, nor do I know enough about you. I am sure the center has solid reasoning for its suggestions. Perhaps the center has presented you with a solid mix of reach, reasonable and safety programs? These are all solid options, with the first 4 being some of the best schools in the EU. While I understand your concern on the relative newness of options 5 & 6, I think you have to look at what those programs offer and the placement statistics of the last two graduating classes to get a sense of their potential. With Lisbon, it is a joint program with MIT, which is a great school, and a way for MIT to expand its reach into the EU. I would research that option a bit more on how much MIT is involved--do professors come over to teach? do you have an opportunity to take classes in Boston for a semester? Likewise, the MIB program at Tufts is an interesting choice as it is at a great university, generally speaking, but it is a specialty program for those wanting to do international business. If international business is your goal, and the program has the curriculum and resources that make sense for you, then it might be a good option. Basically, you need to evaluate each of these options against what you seek from your business school experience--curriculum, resources, industry connections, culture, alumni network, etc. If you don't feel it is a good match, then tell the center and explore other options.

Good luck,
Lisa
