gmat exam cancelled !!

by sushma_0805 » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:31 pm
Today,4-sep-2010, at 12pm, i had my GMAT scheduled at Pearson Professional center, dallas,TX.I registered for the exam as 'sushma lnu' , where 'lnu' stands for 'last name not applicable'. In my passport only my first name 'sushma' is there and there's no last name mentioned ,that's why i mentioned 'lnu' in 'last name' field while registering for GMAT. Because of this mismatch in 'last name', they dint allow me to take the test.

in all my official documents,i've last name lnu, its none of my fault.
now i've got mail stating that,i cant reschedule my missed appointment, and will have to schedule exam again by paying another 250$.

its really depressing and so disgusting, paying again 250$..seems really difficult.

could anyone help me in any ways, any suggestion ?

Thats just not fair, I had similar issue with the name, but I was fortunate enough be forewarned by a friend, so I went to the center (1 week in advance) to get it checked, and they said it wouldnt work, the names have to be EXACTLY matching the details mentioned in your passport.

I emailed customer support with the scan of my passport and they made the necessary change in their records within a day.

In your case, you should write to GMAC, (they have the email address's listed based on your geographic location) explain to them in detail about your mishap, and I hope they oblige with a complimentary appointment.

All the best!

You can lodge a complaint with the GMAC officials, but it won't help. These guys will keep you going in a circle. My advise, forget about what happened. Register again, but make sure you correct your profile this time before you register (your profile should match your passport etc).

There are customer care numbers call them and deal with them and them alone. Calling them is like filing a case. If you win you get a free retake, if you lose you have to start over. But in many ways its also like Gambling, because no matter the odds, the house always wins. I.e. Number of retakes they approve is low.

If you can wait (13-14 days) then go ahead and wait but don't let the wait come in way of your prep, If you're in hurry then pay 250 dollars again and start over.

All of your documents should match. If you are using passport, then your passport should match with whatever name you are registering the GMAT. If you have questions, ALWAYS call either GMAC or the testing center.
Yep.

I'm a guy who goes by the principle of matters, so I know how troubling it would be to pay another $250 for nothing. If money or principle is a big issue for the original poster, I would fight it as hard as you can(call/write letters/e-mail to the GMAC).

If you can take a once in a lifetime hit, and/or you can get over the significant loss, I would just reschedule and pay the extra $250 and chalk it up as a lesson learned(to be very careful in the future when registering for things).

good luck

The same thing happened to me. I ended up paying another $250. I am more concerned with whether this will reflect negatively on my record.

Best of luck to you.

Can't blame GMAC for such strict policy, which is really the result of previous circumstances, namely ones that involved cheaters.

Be smart, know the rules and follow them. If you don't, ask or pay the consequence.

I agree with you, that the GMAC has to be stringent, and denying the OP on the day of the exam is understandable, but this is a technicality and common sense should prevail, you have to look at it on a case on case basis, and simply cant expect a genuine candidate to lose $250 for having done nothing wrong.

Sushma, while I agree with other posters that if you are in a hurry to give the exam, by all means go ahead and make the 2nd appointment, but please also do write to GMAC explaining your case, you might just get another appointment, which may be helpful if you dont get your desired score the first time around.

Gurpinder- The registration details provided by you on the GMAC website (mba.com) should EXACTLY match your passport details, if your not sure, just call them up (your local exam center) and double check.
