Profile evaluation Please

HI,
I took GMAT recently and have scored 690(Q50 V35 AWA 4) . I have done my undergrad(BTech Electronics)2009 passout from NIT Trichy( A leading college in India) I have an average CGPA(7.0)

My Profile-

Started a robotics company when i was at College
Worked for an year with my startup scaled it up really well.
Recently joined a medium sized IT company for a professional workex(Doing my startup as a part time)

extracurricular- Active member of NSS (social service group) from my school days

Leading a cultural club at my present organization


Im planing to apply in R1 this year

Can anyone please help in evaluatiing my profile..

Hi,

Thanks for your post. From an academic standpoint your GMAT score (verbal in particular) is a bit low. Many of your peers in the applicant pool will have higher GMAT scores. In addition, adcoms like to see a nice balance or even split between verbal and quant. While have solid quantitative ability, which you clearly posses, is key for success in an MBA program, verbal and communication skills are just as important for an international applicant. You may wish to consider retaking the GMAT with a goal to improve your verbal score. Another option would be to write solid essays to help convince the adcom of your communication skills.

My other concern is around your professional experience. Given you graduated just last year I'm concerned that you have yet to establish yourself in the workforce and clearly exhibit an upward career trajectory. While I recognize you did start your own company in college, your formal work experience at the IT company is minimal at this point.

I suggest that you consider applying to bschool next year with a little more professional experience under your belt. If you're set on applying this year and won't be retaking the GMAT, then you should focus your school research or programs with an average GMAT around your score.
