Transcripts

Stacy

I'm a little confused about this topic and read through multiple threads but there's no clear answer

I did my undergrad from India but have been based in the states for the last 8 years. Getting transcripts from any university in India isn't an easy task. I'm going to start applying to schools for the first round in Oct and do have the original degree certificate and mark sheet in my possession

Q: Do I need transcripts (sealed envelopes with your marks) from the university at the application stage or are these requested only at the interviewing or when you are finally accepted? I know there's no single answer as different universities have varying policies but would like to hear about what the top 5-10 usually demand

Thank you !!!

Dear raj22,

All schools will ultimately want an official transcript, so I would suggest you go ahead and make arrangements to get a few official copies from your university in India now. That way, you will have them when the time comes. In the meantime, if a school is wanting the official transcript at the application stage, then you might check with the admissions office to see if they will take a notarized copy of the original certificate and mark sheet that you have. Many schools will accept a notarized copy until an original can be obtained and understand the difficulty in securing official transcripts from India. Most of the top 20 have moved to asking for an official transcript once admitted, but schools do change their policies from year to year as admissions directors and/or deans change. So, it is imperative you verify with each school you apply to what documents are required and when.

Good luck,
Lisa

Thanks for your quick response. Do you know if transcripts are required for high school and college (undergrad degree) or just the undergrad degree? You are probably aware that in India, most people go through
10 years school
5 or 6 years for undergrad degree depending on if it's commerce or engineering

Thanks!

Just college--high school transcripts will not be required. Good luck with retrieving your transcripts!
