ESSAY QUESTION:
"Status as a 'superpower' does not make a country responsible for policing world affairs. Even a superpower should remain neutral towards world events except in cases of self-defense."

Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the position stated above. Support your viewpoint using reasons and examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

YOUR RESPONSE:
The presenter of the issue is of the opinion that a country, which is a "superpower" should not be policing world affairs. If fact these superpowers should remain neutral towars world events and sould intefere only in cases of self defence. I as a person would like to agree with the presenter for the following reasons.

First of all, it is very difficult to walk the thin line between a fair intervention and unfair medling. A dispute would mostly involve 2 nations. How do you conclude that one of the nations is correct and the other is not? Any such intervention would lead to animosity towards you by the other nation and would thus hurt you in the longer run.

Also how do you make sure that you are responsible and fair in your actions and are not doing it just to increase your power and influence. History has shown nations that became too powerful started weilding their powers unfairly. The best example would be the british empire. As they became more and more powerful, they started colonizing nations unfairly and exploiting them for their own benefits.

Finally, one of the major qualities of great men is restrain in use of power. Take the example of any great person who is revered today and you would see that they always maintained a sense of dignity and restraint about them. Be it mahatma gandhi or nelson mandela, they have never been known to have taken undu advantage of their position or influence.

Thus is conclusion, i would like to say that great nations and superpower should maintain restraint and not try to police every dispute that they see in the would. In fact such task sould be left to the United nations or such multi nation body.
