Low work experience.

Hi Stacy !
I am an engineer working for EMC Corp. for just 1 year. I am planning to apply this year for Fall-2011 admissions. By then i would have had 2 years of work ex.
I wanted to know the chances, in general , for a newbie like me to get accepted into a top school (h/s/k) provided there is leadership experience at the school/college level ? Also, is it an advantage if i apply in Round 1 ? (Assume a 700+ GMAT score).

Dear Jman,

You certainly meet the preference of most schools for quantity of work experience as you will have 2 years by fall 2011. The question is the quality of your work experience during that time. Have you progressed, gained skills and/or been given additional responsibilities? Do you have a solid rationale for why you want to go to business school and why now is the right time?

As for which round, there is no advantage to round 1 versus round 2, but if you can get in a stellar, quality application package by round 1, then why wouldn't you? You get your decision sooner and show the school(s) you are serious about getting your MBA by applying early in the cycle.
