This is my first time writing to the BTG community. I have been following user posts for a few months now. Anyway, I took my GMAT this weekend and it was not upto my expectations. I was hoping to get something around 730, but my score was a disappointment.
Things that went wrong
1) I never practiced a single AWA before the actual test. This weekend was the first time I wrote an AWA. It was the biggest mistake of my entire preparation that lasted for last 2-3 months. Since I had not written an AWA before, I ended up focussing a lot on those essays.
2) I didn't take a single practice exam with AWA. It was another mistake on my part. I didn't train myself to focus for excruciating 4 hours.
3) I took a longer than allowed first optional break.
I used Manhattan GMAT books (set of 8), Powerscore critical reasoning bible, and OC 12th edition for my preparation. I took 5 practice exams before taking the final test and the scores were as follows:
1) MGMAT 1: 660
2) MGMAT 2: 730
3) MGMAT 3: 710
4) GMATPrep 1: 710 q:50, v:35
5) GMATPrep 2: 740 q:51, v:39
All the above exams were taken without AWA. One consistent observation in all my exams was a q score of 49 or greater and a v score ranging from 32 to 39. I was never able to beat 40 on v
- SC being my biggest problem - followed by RC. CR was pretty solid - though I would still get two incorrect out of fifteen or so.
I have 5.5 years of work experience in tech industry, and I am wondering whether I should retake my exam or should I apply to my selected schools (HAAS, UCLA, NYU, Columbia, Indian Institute of Management B) - I am not even sure what are my odds of making the cut at these schools. Any help from folks would be appreciated.
