SC : Redundancy (Anything Else vs. Anything)

Can anyone explain if we can leave the word "else" in the sentence below and yet not change the meaning:

"Being excited about the final match, she could barely focus on anything else."

"Being excited about the final match, she could barely focus on anything."

The tww sentences have different meaning. The first one implies that she can focus on only one thing. While the second one says she can't focus at all.
