What has more weightage?

Hi Friends,

Coming across some of the posts, i just thought that whether CR and SC has more weightage then RC.means if i solve CR and SC correctly then my chances of securing good score are increased.
Please comment if someone can explain more clearly.

Not really, I believe it is better than score 70% from each than 40% from RC and 85% from CR and SC.

Each question has a difficulty level assigned to it that was determined how many people got that question wrong in the past (a very simplistic explanation). So what matters is how tough the question is- not the type of question (RC, SC, or CR)

Hey Saurabh,

Good question, but unfortunately it's hard to try to "game" the GMAT scoring. RC, CR, and SC should each account for approximately 1/3 of the 41 verbal questions, but there's a "give or take" caveat on there, as well, so you may well see a few more of one type and a few less of another. As Dan wrote, the scoring is quite dependent on the difficulty level of each question, and not really at all on the type of question itself, so there's not much potential upside to focusing on one type versus another, and the downside is that if you prioritize, say, SC at the expense of RC, there's a fair chance that you'll see a few more RC questions and completely ruin your strategy.

The good news is that there is a lot of overlap between the question types and thought processes on RC and CR, so practice on one will inevitably make you stronger at the other. Similarly, the ability that you develop through SC to break apart sentences and focus on the most important components of them will help you to more efficiently process RC and CR stimuli. Keep in mind that the GMAT is a pretty well-written test - that overlap in skills between sections (even between CR and Data Sufficiency) is intentional and designed to reward test-takers for higher-order thinking skills.

If you're sucking at one type, I swear they will give you more of that type. I knew I was sucking at SC, and I got more SC than any other question type.
