Agree with Hardik's explanation. However i think the revised option D for the first one should be the answer, are you sure you copied it all right? E is a little too wordy to be the correct option on GMAT.

Reading it again, Hardik's modified version of d sounds right and has a better ring: Martin Scorsese is of the opinion that film is primarily a visual medium

as regards E - maybe the intention was to test if adverbs (primarily) can modify adjectives (visual)... yes they can.[/i]

MOST can also go with people..so can we eliminate E just on the basis of being wordy or there are other reasons too ?

The meaning of Many isn't the same as meaning of Most. Option E changes the meaning of the original sentence.

To me it seems "most" would make it >50% of the people (and thus add new meaning) where as "many" can be 40% or 60% of the people -- the question does not indicate whether it is a majority and thus "many" may be preferable...
