"[R]esulting from the combustion of" is a modifying phrase, and on the GMAT that means that it modifies whatever is next to it. In choice C, the phrase is next to "atmosphere," but we know it's not the atmosphere that results from the combustion; it's the carbon dioxide. Choice B correctly places the modifying phrase next to the noun it modifies.

choice C gives a meaning ad if the amount of carbon dioxide can be controlled; its amount can be increased.

How did you all eliminate 'E'? I thought, increase is because of burning fossil fuels, and hence they should be close to each other. Isnt 'E' more concise?

Is "Increased from" correct idiom? I am not sure.. "Increased By" should be the correct idiom I believe.

In E there are 2 flaws.

1. The Sentence structure is wrong.

2. <That > refers to carbon dioxide or atmospheric carbon dioxide ? is it not ambiguous. ?
The original meaning of the sentence deals with the Atmospheric Carbon dioxide.



As KVCPK says, there is problem with idiom as well.
