I feel E should be the correct one. Option A and D are already stated in the passage. Option C and B looks to be out of context and cant be an assumption for the case.

Since it can be either a complex reasoning or a simple response to a stimuli, we have the conclusion made by the author.

The answers is between A and D.
For answering you should be knowing the difference between sufficiency and necessary Also necessary and sufficient indicators.

Now the stimulus says:
reptiles are incapable of making alterations in behavior---------->>>>incapable of complex reasoning .
We can say it as
capable of complex reasoning ---------------->>>> capable of making alterations in behavior.

Now A says:
Major changes in behavior -------->>>>>>capable of complex reasoning (this makes our necessary statement as sufficient and our sufficient statement as necessary, note Only if refers a necessary condition)

refer to D
capable of complex reasoning ---------->>>>>>able to make changes (This matches our conclusion. Hence correct .)

Thank you guys for the explaination. In the first attempt I voted for A . But this question is from casuality :

Stimulus suggest that "complex reasoning cause major changes in the behaviour" -- Option E

Where as in "A" it is opposite.

The difference between A & D is a little more obvious than you make it out to be.

A talks about "Animals"; the argument talks about "Reptiles". Hence Eliminate A.

D is your answer.
