Why save endangered species? For the general public, endangered species appear to be little more than biological oddities. A very different perception is gained from considering the issue of extinction in a wider context. The important point is that many major social advances have been made on the basis of life forms whose worth would never have been perceived in advance. Consider the impact of rubber-producing plants on contemporary life and industry: approximately two-thirds of the world's rubber supply comes from rubber producing plants and is made into objects as diverse as rubber washers and rubber boots.

The point of the passage is made chiefly by

A. acknowledging the validity of two opposing points of view
B. appealing to the emotions of the audience rather than to their intellects
C. suggesting a useful perspective for viewing the question raised at the beginning of the passage
D. trying to discredit the view of an opponent without presenting an alternative hypothesis
E. generalizing from similar to dissimilar cases.

What we need to find out? I could not understand question stem.

Please analyse this problem only if it overlap with GMAT CR.

I think....the question is of the type...
Evaluate the argument or Method of reasoning..These kinda of questions are asked on gmat but are rare...
A-> There are no two opposing point of views..
B-> out of scope.
C-> Keep it..The passage does raise a question at the start and then goes on to a useful perspective when the argument says a different perception is gained from considering the issue of extinction in a wider context...
D-> Argument does not try to discredit the view of the opponent..
E-> The example of washers and rubber boots is given to show the impact of something on life and industry... but no generalization is made from these examples...
This is I think my first post in CR and that too for LSAT CR!!

I think this is more of a Method of reasoning that evaluate the argument question...

My understanding:

The passage puts up a question. And then follows what is needed to evaluate the question. The passage structure in short is like a question followed by a way prescribed to evaluate/answer the question better.

We are supposed to identify this flow amongst the choices given.

Option C holds correct as the lines "Consider the impact of rubber-producing plants ..." and "A very different perception is gained from considering the issue of extinction in a wider context. "...from the passage state a way for us to evaluate the question "Why save Endangered species?"...
