Although the bite of diamond-backed adders are rarely fatal, they cause chronic flesh wounds, posing the greatest danger to the infant and elderly, who are particularly vulnerable to its poison.

Since bite is singular, A & B eliminated.

In E, pronoun they is not correct as the bite causes the flesh wounds and should be referred by it

between C and D, posing the greatest danger.... modifies the flesh wounds. The sentence intends to say that the bite poses danger to ... because they are vulnerable to the poison.

Thus IMO D.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I believe the correct answer is D. it uses correct verb form such as poses and causes and pronounce its correctly refers to adder.

E wrong because they wrongly to adder or bite. adder and bite is singular

only D has correct pronoun antecedent agreement
rest all contains error in agreement
