General GMAT questions

by RickH » Sat May 22, 2010 9:12 am
Hi everyone,

I have a few rather general questions regarding the GMAT so hopefully you can help me out.

1. Is it true that after completing the GMAT the test scores will be visible right away? If so could I copy them down ? I am applying for grad school and time is an issue and the school doesn't wan to see official scores for the online application.

2. I am thinking about not entering a school code until I see my scores (if above is true) and the right away change the school code online? Is this possible?

3. Is it true that the test center provide white boards to write on?

Thanks

I'm not sure about your second question, but the answer to the first is yes, you will get your quant and verbal scores right away. Your essay score will come later. If you're just writing them into your application, it's a good idea to jot them down, but you might have to wait for your essay score to submit if they want that as well. And regarding your third question, yes, you will get a whiteboard or something similar to write on. Whatever it is, it'll be something that you write on with a wipe-off marker, and when it's full, you raise your hand and request a fresh one from the proctor.

Thanks for the answer.

For the second question I was specifically wondering whether it is possible to insert a school code via the internet after one took the test and knows the score, as I don't want to send a real bad score to the school if I happen to have a bad day. I somehow remember reading that this is possible if done on test day, but I am unsure where I read it so I was hoping someone was able to confirm?

I guess one can send them afterwards but has to pay $28 per report?!

That sounds right to me. Generally, the scores that one sends afterward are for additional schools beyond those specified at the time of the test. If you're not sure you want to send your scores to some schools, you could always cancel the scores at the testing center and retake the test later, or specify only your "safety" schools to receive the scores, and then send them to your "reach" schools later if you're happy with them.
