Will a diploma in Finance, Consulting affect mba application

I am an engineering background student, and interested in a career change to Finance or Consulting but i am not entirely sure which area i would excel in, so i am planning on taking up 1 year distance education from Indira Gandhi national open university for getting diploma in finance, consulting to understand whether i will like the subject, be able to complete the course to take up full time mba.

Will having a diploma in Finance or Consulting reduce my chances of mba admission into a USA university, i am aware they dont accept double mba.
