Just got beat by the GMAT -> 470

Hey,

I just took my first GMAT 2 weeks ago and scored only 470 (29Q 25V) and scheduled a new date. I will take the test again in 2 1/2 weeks.
I prepared for about 1 1/2 month for my first test and my aim was 600 and it is still. That's actually all I need to get into my favorite school.
I don't know exactly where I got problems. I worked with the Official GMAT Guide 11th edition and Kaplan GMAT Premier Programm. I scored 510 on the first GMAT Prep Test.
I want to work now with Verbal Workout for the GMAT from Princeton and Reading Comprehension GMAT Strategy Guide from Manhattan Review.
I am happy about any other advise how I can score 600 and which material I could use.

Hi Katharina,

I think one of the key elements to score higher is to aim higher. If you are looking for 600, you should aim for 650 and work as if 650 is your new goal. I think many of us carry the mentality that GMAT is merely a mean to an end, and rather not spend more energy than it is necessary for our target score. Yes, some of us have the luxury to do just that, but most of us including myself probably should do the heavy lifting GMAT requires.

There are many book recommendations available in other posts, which I recommend you to go through. Manhattan is a popular source, and they include 6 CAT exams for identifying weaknesses. Foundation is the key, and you should be very familiar with them before taking the test again.

I highly recommend rescheduling your 2nd exam, because if it's 2 weeks away and you're just now asking for input on study materials, it is unlikely you'll score much higher than your first test. Refer back to my first paragraph and give yourself maybe 2-3 months.

Not only push the test back, because thats nearly not enough time.
kaplan premier program is nothing more than a review book
YOU NEED SPECIALIZED BOOKS IN EACH AREA OF STUDY: CR, RC, SC, PS, DS: Manhattan, Powerscore,
then go to the OG questions
after that do multiple practice tests each week 4-8 tests
participate in the forum
