After 5 games, a rugby team had an average of 28 points per game. In order to increase the average by n points, how many points must be scored in a 6th game?
(A) n
(B) 6 n
(C) 28 + 6 n
(D) 28 n
(E) 32 n

to increase avarage by n points for the 5 games sum need to increase by 5n and the new avarage will be 28+n

so points required from 6th game is=28+n+5n=28+6n

Ans option C

you can view it as a series of five 28s . i.e. 28,28,28,28 and 28.

Now, if the avg needs to become 28+n, you need to add n to each of the five numbers PLUS the sixth one should itself be 28+n.

therefore, total increase 28+6n

IMO C.

total=5*28
let in the 6th game scored x
new total=5*28+x
new avg=(5*28+x)/6
diff is new avg-old avg=n
i.e (5*28+x)/6-28=n
solving x=6n+28
