MGMAT 2 - Trick DS question

Hi all,
Just wondering...I noticed a few trick questions like this and trying to figure out what is the possibility of seeing someting like this on GMAT. I just want to understand to whether this could be a "GMAT" question.

In a single row of yellow, green and red colored tiles, every red tile is preceded immediately by a yellow tile and every yellow tile is preceded immediately by a green tile. What color is the 24th tile in the row?

(1) The 18th tile in the row is not yellow.

(2) The 19th tile in the row is not green.

Solution:It is tempting to view the information in the question as establishing a pattern as follows:
Green, Yellow, Red, Green, Yellow, Red, . . .

However, consider that the following non-pattern is also possible:
Green, Yellow, Red, Green, Green, Green, Green . . .

This doesnt test Quant really. Does it ?
I am wondering whether I should continue with MGMAT tests.

So the answer is E?

I would have said C, having a pattern of G Y R and knowing that 19th is not G it can't be R either since 18th will have to be Y and it is not. So 19th is Y. But I guess they never mentioned that every green tile is preceded by anything. THIS SUCKS? Don't get discouraged, this seems to me like a very difficult question, aimed at people going for 800.

yep, the answer is E. I marked C.
I dont think this tests maths/quant. I hope such questions dont come in GMAT.

Looking at such questions, I also doubt whether MGMAT tests are a decent representation of GMAT. After having gone through couple of these tests & the explanations, I think overall (Quant+Verbal), they happen to be 75-80% similar to GMATPrep or OG questions.

The answer should be E.

The question tells us the tiles are in order of Red (R), Yellow (Y), Green (G).

(1) 18th is not Yellow- so 18th could be R or G (making it insufficient to figure out the 24th tile).

(2) 19th is not Green- so 19th could be Y or R (making it insufficient to figure out the 24th tile).

Together- if the 18th tile is R the 19th tile is Y. If the 18th tile is G the 19th tile is R. both of these possibilities can happen with the given statements, therefore together it is insufficient info to figure out the 24th tile.

Yes, word problems like these are in the quant sections.

That is not the reason why the answer is E, read my previous reply. It says that every red tile is PRECEDED immediately by a yellow (means yellow comes before red) tile and every yellow tile is PRECEDED immediately by a green tile, so order is G Y R.

Hi, I tried every possible combinations using statments 1 and 2 and everytime i landed up with green as the 24th time. Am i missing something? Shouldn't the answer be C?
