Profile evaluation when possible, please

by onyx00 » Wed Oct 24, 2007 12:33 pm
Target Universities: Northwestern, Harvard, Dartmouth, Wharton

Age: 27

GMAT: 720 (44Q, 45V), Essays 5.5

Education:

- Undergraduate: Arizona State University, B.S.E. Computer Systems Engineering. GPA: 3.17 (worked part-time during most of my school career).

- Graduate: University of Southern California, M.S. in Systems Architecture and Engineering. GPA: 3.98 (done while working full-time, or more, at Honeywell)

Work Experience:

- 4 years Honeywell Aerospace designing Flight Management Systems for aircraft like the Boeing 787, Boeing 747-8, and Airbus A380. In the last year and a half I have transitioned to primarily a leadership role rather than being an individual contributor. I coordinate one of our major outsourcing partners in Mexico, where I am responsible for the work of about 20 engineers. Basically, I spend half my time in a project management role, and the other half on the technical leadership side. Of important note, I have been promoted 3 out of 4 years and well known in my organization as a top performer.

Extra Curricular:

- While I have not had a lot of time for things outside work because of school, and business travel I have tried to stay involved in a few activities like closed-track road racing (see https://www.nasaproracing.com/), and some after-work sports leagues.

Hi onyx00,

It sounds like you have strong work experience with clear progression. Managing people is very useful to discuss in essays. I think your academics also sound like a strength when you combine the GPAs and look at the GMAT.

I would focus your efforts on essay strategy which includes goals (which you didn't mention) and why MBA and very specifically why that school.

Good luck!
