how to move from 700 to 750

by ayushiiitm » Wed Apr 21, 2010 2:04 pm
Hi guys,

I have a date to give GMAT on 30th June (2 months left)

I have been in touch with most things related. ('In touch' means keep on learning, keep on forgetting)

I gave a Princeton test last week scored 700 (Q-51, V-36), which I just considered a fluke
Today I gave my first GMAT prep to test the real waters . Scored 700 again (Q-48, V-38)

I think that may be I am at the right end of applying strategies (Most of them taken from BeattheGmat), but still I think, I havent put in a serious effort. So I want to consolidate myself now.

I dont want to miss from here. I optimistically think that with 2 months of training I can stretch myself to 750.

And so I need help

Questions1 >> Should I join a coaching class for verbal (my answers to SC questions are still not fully rational). Uptil now I have prepared on my own

Question2 >> Any link to a 2 month plan/strategy

Question3>>Is the level of quant similar to the one that appears on the GMAT prep, or do the questions become difficult, once you get into a higher percentile. Because I am very comfortable with questions that I see now. Do i need to practice the harder stuff

In sum, I want to know How to up my game from now

Thanks Osirus, thats a cool post from Stacey. I took a print out of it

But i wanted to know about 1 specific question>>

Does level of quant increases drastically, as one moves into high 700s. Because I am strong in quant so I just do not want to
get complacent in my strong side

Where can I get Quant questions of a level that can be expected in above 95 percentile scores ?

Your quant score is dependent on how you do on the quant section. The way the scoring works is that you get a scaled quant score and a scaled verbal score. The combination of these two scaled scores results in you getting an overall score. So if you are confident that right now you will get a Q 48, then to score around a 750, you would need a V 45. The dificulty of the quant questions is determined by how you are answering the quant questions. The more you answer correctly the more difficult they will become, but it is not directly related to you moving into the mid 700s because the test won't even know that until you have completed the verbal.
