Global warming

by ssgmatter » Wed Apr 14, 2010 8:56 am
Those skeptical of the extent of global warming argue that short-term
temperature data are an inadequate means of predicting long-term trends and
point out that the scientific community remains divided on whether significant
warming will occur and what impact will it have if it does.

A. on whether significant warming will occur and what impact will it have if it does.
B. on whether warming that occurs will be significant and the impact it would have
C. as to whether significant warming will occur or the impact it would have if it did
D. over whether there will be significant warming or the impact it will have
E. over whether significant warming will occur and what impact it would have

Please explain each of the options with reasons.....I will post the OA as the thread progress with explanations

Cheers!
Best-
Amit

I mean that some Q was already discussed. Better we should check first.

Future tense and past tense can't go together.
whether ..... and what ..... -> shows parallelism
Authors are discussing about both the things. -> It required "and"

I believe; "impact it would have" is better than "impact will it have if it does. "

So E is the answer

A. on whether significant warming will occur and what impact will it have if it does.
B. on whether warming that occurs will be significant and the impact it would have
C. as to whether significant warming will occur or the impact it would have if it did
D. over whether there will be significant warming or the impact it will have
E. over whether significant warming will occur and what impact it would have

Please compare these two closely in context of GMAT.

A. ..on whether significant warming will occur and what impact will it have if it does.
E. over whether significant warming will occur and what impact it would have

One more grammar rule is that if any interrogation starts at middle of sentence then subject come first.

Ex
You are still here what the reason is. -> correct
You are still here what is the reason. -> incorrect
