If x and y are positive integers, what is the value of x?

1) 3^x * 5^y = 1125
2) y = 3

Answer is supposedly A but I was going was C >>

3^x * 125 = 1125 so x must be 2. Can somebody explain why statement 1 is sufficient?

from statement we get 3^x*5^y=1125=5^3*3^2..there is no other break possible given that X and Y are integers.
so X=2 and Y=3

hence statement 1 is sufficient.

We can break 1125 down into 3x3x5x5x5 which gives us the value for x and y. Thus st 1 is sufficient...
