need advice for verbal score improvement

by gmat-10 » Sun Apr 04, 2010 8:17 am
I am entirely focused on verbal score at this point of time. Following books I studied for verbal:
OG 12
Manhattan GMAT SC
Powerscore Critical Reasoning

The bad thing about GMATPrep is that it doesn't tell you what type of question was and what was the difficulty level of that question so you really can't analyze and figure out where you are weak in verbal? Manhattan GMAT's CAT gives a detailed excel sheet with the all details.

Still I don't see improvement in accuracy. Please advice what can I do to improve my accuracy only in verbal?

The tough thing about verbal is that you're likely to need tons and tons of practice to make your accuracy significantly better, and there really aren't that many great resources out there besides the ones that you mentioned. For RC and CR, I would strongly recommend picking up a copy of The Official LSAT Superprep if you can. At the beginning of the book (pages 15-59), there's a great breakdown of how to approach RC and Logical Reasoning (same as GMAT CR) questions, and it's written by the people who create the LSAT test. The book also breaks down all of the practice questions by difficulty level, and the explanations are outstanding. Highly recommended if you're trying to make major progress with self-study.

Beyond that, you can always continue with official LSAT books if you need more CR and RC practice material--definitely better than using any material by GMAT test-prep companies. I also noticed that the GMAT Verbal Review book wasn't on your list, and you'll certainly want a copy of that as well.

Good luck with your studies!
