Europa..Doubt

by kaulnikhil » Sun Mar 28, 2010 3:12 am
Is the sentence run on??

Europa, with surface temperatures estimated at minus 230 degrees Fahrenheit, has long been considered to be far too cold to support life, its 60 miles of water thought to be frozen solid from top to bottom.

In case it is not .. Then what is the role played by ( its 60 miles of water thought to be frozen solid from top to bottom.)
Isn't this an independent clause ??

i think it is a modifying clause ....a run on sentence is when it is independent ....

You couldn't just write "Its 60 miles of water thought to be frozen solid from top to bottom," so it's not an independent clause, and it's describing Europa, so it's a modifier.
