Hello, I am Nitin ,29 yrs old, Indian married male, orthopedic surgeon.I wanna go to harvard business school.n I am planning to take GMAT in june 2010.My GPA is 3.5. I don't have financial support from my family side.II need opinion that whats my prospects of getting into harvard B school and does university support financialy to the students like us.

As far as your profile concerned its unique and you have good chance to stand out. However you need to substantiate the reason for change from Medicine to Business. And about Financial status concerned, don't worry mate, any fella who get into TOP 3 B-school will eventually able to overcome this hurdle easily take my word for it. Just try to concentrate on getting through because REMEMBER mate, "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going "

Whether HBS support such students or not ? My answer will be 10 times YES.

Hi Nitin,

I would like to echo the sentiments of the other responders - in order to gain acceptance, you will need to make a very compelling case for the switch to business (or how you plan to tie business and medicine together). Generally it is true that financial costs shouldn't be an issue and that the school will help you find loans or other aid if you are admitted. However, for foreign students this can be a little bit different. You may have to apply at an earlier round to be considered for aid, and, you will likely need to prove that you have the financing lined up before you will be permitted a student visa. Those aren't things that should worry you, just be aware that you may have some extra paperwork (especially if you intend to bring your spouse to the states with you).

For now, focus on your GMAT and your reasons for needing an HBS degree. It could also benefit you to take a few finance courses now as additional "proof" that you can handle quantitative work and that you are serious about business (and know what a business education entails).
