Is the sentence a run on because a comma is missing before and ?Had a comma been there would the sentence have made sense?
A run no sentence is the one that connects two main clauses with just a comma .
Ex : The movie was good, I watched the movie .
Main clause 1 :The movie was good
Main clause 2 : I watched the movie
These two main clauses are joined by just a comma . But the problem can be rectified by adding a sub-ordinator
Ex : Because the movie was good , I watched the movie.
Similarly in the above sentence :
General psychology,
Appositive modifying the noun : one of the main introductory courses offered at major universities around the world,
Main Clause 1 : has moved away from theoretical philosophizing about the mind
Coordinator :
and
Main clause 2: it now draws on the findings of neurological researchers
The rule for coordinator specially AND is : when ever a coordinator is used to join two main clauses use comma + coordinator .
that comma + and .
So yes the problem could have been resolved by putting a comma before AND
OR remove the subject from the second main clause .
Ex : General psychology, one of the main introductory courses offered at major universities around the world,
has moved away from theoretical philosophizing about the mind AND
now draws on the findings of neurological researchers .
