It takes a lot to acheive greatness in someone's field. Sometimes it requires a lifetime. One has to sacrifice a lot to get to a point where people can see, recognize and appreciate the outcome, time, effort and hardwork that went in to reach an achievement. A person's achievement will become so important only when majority of people agree to the fact that the person has contributed or done something noticable in his/her field.
In my opinion, professional life and personal life are two different things and it's never comfortable to mix them together. The faults that occur in professional life can be left behind personal life and the faults that occur in personal life can be left professional life. This will also help one to keep a good balance in both. However, the topic given here states an important question. The question implies when a person achieve something in his or her professional life will that be enough to make up for his or her personal faults.
A recent incident of a famous golfer comes to my mind. Tiger Woods reached great heights in his field but his adultery in his marriage brought him down over night. Not only he announced that he is going to quit golfing for now but also his sponsors pulled the contracts. In any personal fault, discipline, loyalty, trust and commitment are the four main characters that are being tested and they just don't just relate to personal life they relate to the professional life as well. When a personal faults questions the mentioned characters it indirectly questions the same characters in the professional life as well.
To summarize, a person who acheives big is not only treated for his achievements, he is being looked up as an inspiration by lot of people and a personal fault will always stays a black mark in his/her career. An acheivement can overshadow the personal mistakes for a while but will never make up for the faults and it can never be considered more important than any of his or her personal faults.
