MGMAT RC - killing me - Exam 1 week to go - Advice Pls !!!!

Hi All

I have my GMAT test next week and my preparations is looking good Except my PERFORMANCE in RC of MGMAT tests.

I have taken 5 MGMAT tests and my scores are all but one 700 +

Verbal score ranges from 36-40. However I am getting an average of 6-8 RC questions wrong in all my MGMAT tests

Strangely, my accuracy rate in RC of OG10 and OG12 is much higher .

The OG is the gold standard. if you are getting 80% of the OG reading comp problems correct, you should be fine.

the mgmat tests are good, but they do have occasional RC passages on which the questions are not quite as "robotic" / "literal-minded" as those on the official materials.

Now I am in a big dilemma . Just 1 week to go , I really need to build up on my performance but RC of MGMAT is giving me a headache.

How can I really pull up from here ? I don't want to reschedule the test day due to time constraints and other reasons

If you are doing well with the reading comp passages from the Official Guide, I wouldn't worry. The logic of the Manhattan GMAT verbal is awful, so don't stress over. Go through the OG again and make sure you understand why you missed the questions you miss. Also, make sure you know how to deal with long passages. If you do this you should be fine. Good luck.

hk_4u what other resources do you have besides the OG that you can go through? You may just be stressing it too much at this point.

I studied RC from MGMAT and Kaplan book . And practiced from OG10 and OG12

The OG books are the best standard for Reading comp questions! No doubt.

Make sure that leading up to the test, in addition to your regular studying, you also read regularly from sources like Business Week, the Wall Street Journal, the New York times. In your reading, try to assess the passages like you would a reading comprehension passage on the GMAT. Make summarizing paragraphs or groupings of paragraphs something you do automatically. Every little bit helps.

Be sure that you watch out for the passage type in order to determine what kind of questions will be asked of you. The sciency passages tend to be more factual quesions; business passages tend to be more inference based. How you read a passage becomes very important and there is a wealth of tips for how you should look at a given passage both in this forum and in the various text books.
