if Bob produce 36 unit, he is paid x dolar per unit. if Bob produces more than 36 units, he is paid x dolar per unit for first 36 unit and 1.5x per unit for each additional unit. how many unit Bob pruduces last weak

a, Bob is paid 480 for last weak

b, this weak, Bob produce 2 units more than last weak and is paid 510 for this weak

a) Is not sufficient since we do not know how many units he produced
b) Is not sufficient to calculate the no of units produced

Now combining

Say Bob made n units

Now two cases

a) n is above 36 and b) n is below 36

in the case a )

36x+ (n-36)1.5x = 480 ---(1)
36x + (n+2-36)1.5x = 510 (2)

=> 3x = 30 x= 10
substituting in 1 360 + (n-36) 15 = 480
n-36 =8
n=44

In the case b

nx = 480
(n+2)x = 510

x =15

n =24

Which is also possible

So it is not possible for us to get a unique value for n and Hence E

IMO E

s1) we have two unknown variables number of units produce and price of each unit
and we have one eqn
hence insuff
eqn can be
if n>36

36x+(n-36)1.5x=480
or
if n<36
nx=480

in bth the cases we have two variables and one eqn

s2)last week n can be 33,34,35
for each value payment is diff

combining also
we dnt get any thing

As we can see from the statement 1 we are still left with a variable x.
Considering statement 2 ,
we have 2 cases,hence we have to consider both cases if units are less than 36 or if the units are more than 36.


Hence,the question cannot be solved using both the statements.

While discussing a problem here on this forum, we should ignore the phraseology as long as it doesn't challenge our common senses, really.

One thing is sure that nothing can be drawn out without blending (1) and (2).

The difference in bill is $30 when 2 more units were produced; hence the 2 units paid Bob $15 each. If Bob has produced 36 or less units last week, then his payment could have averaged $13.33 or more per unit, and if Bob has produced more than 36 units last week, then his payment could have averaged less than $13.33 per unit. But his average payment per unit is still more than $13.33, even when he produced 2 more units this week as compared to the last week. Hence, Bob's production is still less than or same as 36 in the present week and he's still being paid the regular $x for each unit he produced in each statement.

So, now, $15 is the regular rate and at this rate, Bob must have produced 480/15 = 32 units the last week.

Both of these solutions satisfy all the conditions of the question, so how can you be sure of the number of units?
